Enter our race - DMRC RR Sat 20th Sept - good tough rolling course - 46 on the start sheet so far so probably looking at a field of 60ish.
it's a hard life if you don't weaken.

    Why are you having a race for all two hundred and thirty four cats? Oh, BTW, cats can't read - you'll have to tell them directly.

    If they have licences and the entry fee I'm not going to turn them away but I'm not providing any whiskas they'll have to make do with cakes and sandwiches like the rest of us.

    Out of interest, how do the 4th cats do in this race while riding with 2nd's ?

    Depends - one guy has entered who is a 4th cat but he's also an elite cat mountain bike and having been out training with him on the road I expect him to do pretty well. Last year there were a couple of 4th cats just outside the points - both mates of mine, both small guys, good climbers who maybe last year didn't have the experience or confidence to get it right tactically in other races. They tend not to do as well as the 2nd cats obviously but they generally aren't just getting shelled out on the first lap.

    hmm, most 4th cats will die within 15 mins. i'm sure the odd one ot two will survive, but like you've outlined they're prob only 4th cat through technicality rather than a lack of skill or fitness.

    No not really true, both my mates had done a dozen races each before the race last year - they were strong but maybe lacked a bit tactically or in confidence. Round the Midlands there are a lot of strong 4th cats because there aren't many 4th cat only events - you need to be finishing top 10 in 3/4s to move up to 3rd. When most 3/4 races finish in a bunch sprint if you aren't a sprinter it's not that hard to be strong and not move up a cat. I'm not pretending it'll be an easy race - it wont - but if there is a 4th cat who likes a war of attrition type race and can do well on a steep hill finish this could be a good one for them.
