Yesterday I went to hand over another big wad of cash for the Pinarello I've got a deposit on.
I noticed there were some older white look delta pedals on it (marked with the name Pinarello). But I thought the bike I put the deposit on had white Look Keo pedals. :? The dilemma is, I'm not absolutley 100% certain about it (I see so many bloody bikes & I'm always in a hurry there), so I'm not sure if I should mention it or not. All I can be absolutely positively certain about is that they were white when I 1st saw the bike...
In any case, I don't use the look system (I prefer speedplay), but all I can say is tha Keos do come in handy for my rental bike fleet 'cause I don't have that many pairs & I've definitely got to get more for the coming season anyway. The other ones that are on there now I'll probably have to sell.
What should I do :?:
Tell him about it & risk offending the guy? ... Keep in mind he's already swapped the following stuff at at my request:
-wheels changed over from some half-assed semi-spoked m.o.s.t. wheelset to campy G3 (who knows which is more pricey but I wanted something a bit more well known/durable)
-swapped the seat from white to black (the replacement saddle was a slight downgrade although hell will freeze over before I ride a white saddle)
-he's also installed new black bar tape (again, from white).
The thing is, I wouldn't put it past this feller to have done a swip-swap on me as far as the pedals are concerned... I just don't like his attitude all that much...

So you could have made a mistake, couldn't you? Do you do a lot of business with this guy? If so, is it worth ruining the relationship over a mistake (yours or his)...you also mention you don't like his attitude.
Is this colouring your normal view of things, do you think?

They won't be selling new bikes with Delta on - obviously old stock. I'll take the Deltas off you for free !!0

Wait a minute... you took white bits off of your bike??
What planet are you from, planet crackabis?0 -

Probably.
It's a 2007 model bike, so it might be possible they were on there to begin with. :? Even so, I expect I'll continue to have some business with this guy in future... if not me then my clients who stay in that area. I expect that in my position it's not even worth mentioning...
He's just a bit strange. It's the only bike shop I've been to where he'll look your bike over to see if it's 'worth' being allowed inside.
I'll give you an example of what he's like: one time, he didn't want to regrease/replace one of my clients' bikes when we were in the area (the miche BB) because it wasn't bought there (the bike nor the bb). This could be a topic all of it's own because I admit that it's really my responsibility, etc. OTOH, the other lbs that IS cool with me will give top vip priority to me & all my bikes... 'cause they know I provide heaps of extra business for them (parts as well as service). Too bad they don't sell Pina, eh?
And by the way, I don't want to give the wrong impression, cause I do 95% of the work on my own bike fleet but I can't do everything that a bike shop can.

Yeah, difficult one, mate. I'd let it ride and just don't use him again. Vote with your feet so to speak.
Not sure whether it's worth raising your stress levels over (IMHO).'How can an opinion be bullsh1t?' High Fidelity0 -
What's wrong with white bar tape/saddle? Unless your certain there's not much you can do.0

Maybe just ask him if he can swap the current pedals for the ones you want. If he's trying to pull fast one he might realise you're onto him and just do the swap without any further fuss.0

Graeme_S, yeah maybe I'll just ask him casually on the price of a set of *cough* white Keos ... cause I thought that's what it came with... I've decided not to take a confrontational attitude.
Another thing I noticed:
When I first committed to buy the bike... I asked to check what diameter the seatpost was, knowing full well it was most probably 31.0mm (after doing my homework so to speak). He replied that it was 31.6 and seemed fairly adamant that "that's what all carbon bikes come with"... so I said "let's just check that shall we" (except in spanish). We walk over to the bike, he pulls it out (the seatpost for all you cheeky lot ). Sure enough, 31.0 stamped on it.
I mean, what kind of dealer sells Pinarello and doesn't know the seatpost diameter is 31.0 on a lot of models? A liar methinks?
Still, I'll give him the benefit of the doubt. He'll surely come unstuck as my own cycling in tenerife forum gathers momentum.0 -
You would think he would be happy for the business from another 'company' - odd old coot !0
-
I dunno I think he sees me as a threat. But I have no intention of running a conventional bike shop on this island...0

You're supposed to be a businessman. Don't even hesitate.0

Contact pinarello and find out when they stopped supplying look delta pedals with their brand name on:?:0
