DX spd/servicing.

could any one tell me if i need the special shimano pedal tool [tl fc 40] in order to service my dx m647 spd >s,or can imake do with out it.

    Looking at the image above, I'd say no to the tool. I didn't need one either when I did the bearings in my 636's.
    I've added a signature to prove it is still possible.

    No special tool required as far as I know. This might help you do the job
