Garmin 705 - Help downloading routes

I've splashed the cash, and so far it looks good. Only problem is trying to download routes from BikeRouteToaster - they come across to the Garmin entitled 'course.gpx', which means whenever I load a new route it overwrites the existing one. How can I get around this?

Also, one route keeps showing as 'error on page' when I try to download to the GPS. Is there a limit on the number of trackpoints I can use on a route for it to download?

Cheers

  • I would have thought you just need to give it another name like course1.gpx
  • I find that the easiest way of converting routes is through gpsies.com. Save the file on your desktop then run it through the convert part of gpsies and it will convert to the standard 705 format (.cx??) then upload, easy as, takes 2 mins.

I'm no techie so if my details are slightly out i'm sorry. I have used it before using routes from bikely and it works a treat.
  • beatsystem - sounds straightforward, but at what stage do I rename it? I can't see that there's an opportunity on BRT, and I can't see how I do it on the Garmin itself. Am I missing something really obvious?

Compton, I'll look at your method tonight when I've got the GPS in front of me. It seems a shame not to be able to download directly from BRT when there's just one button to click on.

I'm sure once I suss it, it'll be blindingly obvious!

    Thanks
  • Download to your desktop. Rename downloaded file. Copy to GPX folder in Edge.
