Entry Level Womans Road bike?

Hello,
Helping to find an entry level womans road bike, circa £500, for my better half.
Don't know where to start looking at womans frames - what should be taken into consideration in comparison to mens bike? What are the differences in geometry?
Is there anything approaching consensus on the best makes / bikes at the price point?
All advice would be good.

Hi - my wife just bought a bike and having been properly measured it turned out that a mans bike geometry was better suited - it was a Bianchi Via Nirone 7 Alu (so around your budget mark). Strongly recommend a fitting - had ours done at AW Cycles in ReadingBianchi Nirone 7 Alu Xenon - 2008

Mrs Postie John here, as above bike fitting is a really good plan. I started on a Specialized Dolce, it was a great bike and part of their womens range, they do it in a triple which was also good to have to start with. I got mine at the beginning of 2007 and it was £549, don't know how much they are now. A lot of people rate the Scott Contessa for women too tho I think it is more expensive. :roll:0
