Single Chainset with 8 Speed Cassette

I want to run a single chainset on my commuter bike this winter (less to clean and less expense) with an 8 speed cassette. On my current setup I am never off the 32T ring on the front anyhow. Do I have anything to consider before going out and buying a chainset i.e. chain size, chain alignment? I will obviously have a derailleur on the back for chain tension.
Anyone have any recommendations for a mid-spec chainset (square taper)?

just take the rings off your old one?
but TBH just leave as is and replace the ring in the spring.
and yes you would keep the rear mech so you could change gear at the back.
you will also need the front one to keep the chain from coming off the front cog."Do not follow where the path may lead, Go instead where there is no path, and Leave a Trail."
