trek pilot headset

i own a trek pilot 1.0 which has a aheadset slimstak w/semi cartridge sealed bearings, its done over 4thousand miles and had no maintenance and isnt noisy do these headsets do a lot more miles then this and is there any maintenance i need to do, or do you just renew the bearings

    You may need to service it sometime. The lower bearing tends to get muck and water in it especialy if you do not use mudguards. Keep it clean and lubricated and it will last for years.

    The bottom bearings will need cleaning and re-greasing without a doubt, they take all the punishment being down by the wheel.
    It is best to strip it all down to do it properly, make a note of how it all fits together though.
    If you wait until you get play or noise it is too late :(
