I'm looking for a new 6-8 inch travel bike that can handle light freeride, downhill and is also able to pedal along the flats and small hills if needs be. I like the look of the Specialized SX trails and the demo, but i want to know what else is out there. I will be buying during the sales and £1500 will be absolute max price.

Any suggestions appreciated

  • Take a look at the Brodie Damien. It is a 7" travel freeride bike from Canada, an they know how to make an FR bike!

I know the importers and they have an ex demo available for £1500 and it is very well equipped.

Take a look at the spec here http://www.progressive-bikes.co.uk/damien.html

    Here is a pic damien.jpg

There is a review of last years bike on Pinkbike somewhere...

    A few to look at:

    Orange Patriot
    Commencal Supreme
    Santacruz Bullit
    Yeti ASX
    Giant Reign

Ride as many bikes as you can before you make a decision.

Thanks for the quick suggestions guys. I've looked at all the bikes suggested and i think the Quake, the supreme and the patriot all look awesome and i've found good reviews of all, but i am still interested in your opinions on the specialized bikes i mentioned.
(thanks for the suggestion thirty1 but there is nowhere in derbyshire stocking brodie)

    Thanks

  • The Spesh Enduro should fit your bill (start at £1700 RRP), or try the Pitch (£1400 RRP) if you're on a budget. Alternatively get to a few hire places and see what ex demo's are available. I know the hire place at CYB is a spesh demo place and should be swapping stock imminently, so may be worth giving them a call. Also rutland cycles will have some soon

I thought the Enduro was more of an enduro bike. Im looking for something mainly for freeride and downhill. Also i will be buying in the sales so there should be a few hundred £ off most bikes.

si_brodiebikes (aka Simon) is the importer, and he's based in Chesterfield. I went over to see him earlier this week about one of his sale bikes, but it just wasn't quite right for me. That bike suggested for you is listed at £2k+ on their website, so it's a bit of a bargain!
  • Hi,

Just for your information, leisure lakes are now offering the specialized sx trail fsr 1 complete bike for a reduced price of £1499.

Having just bought an sx trail frame, i can fully recommend it, the best review, allbeit 2006 is here. Theoretically its only got better since

And you only have to watch Darren Berrecloth in Roam to see what it can handle

EDIT: Having just noticed your from Derby as well, I can tell you there aren't actually any SX Trails in the Leisure Lakes shop at the moment, although i have found them to provide the best service in the area and would probably order one in for you for pickup if you didn't want order directly over the internet.
  • Dunno whether your still looking, but heres MBUK's review of the SX Trail 1:

    Pitch?
  • If the Enduro's not suitable the Pitch wont be either, personally I'd happily throw my Pitch down most stuff, but I think he's after something a bit chunkier.

How about a Norco, Winstanleys had loads on offer a while back.

SX Trail or Demo - you can't go wrong.

Watch Matt Hunter and Darren Berrecloth in the Seasons DVD - they and the bike look awesome. Also a certain Sam Hill will be riding a Demo next year :)
