Hey guys, was wondering if you could give me tips on how to look after my bike, say after every ride, or weekly. Just everything you do to keep your bike maintained... as i need to go and buy some gear and would like to know what you guys use and what you do. Many thanks.

  • First, wash you bike immediately if you'd gone under rain or dirt... Then, as you wish, you can clean all gears, chain and cassette using a proper bike degreaser, brush and towels...

Then check often air pressure in tires... For everything else, get a mecanic bike course,or learn some consulting Internet... A good way is on Park Tool website, there's a lot of informations, or even on this forum!!

    Good luck!!

if you're short of time i would recommend wiping your chain with a clean rag and then re-lubing after each ride. takes around 1 minute to do this. check chain wear with an appropriate tool (parktool do a good few) - v important as will save the rest of your kit. lastly, check the tyres over for flints. not an upkep thing but will save you hassel in the long run.
  • Just keep it clean - wash or hose it down, shake as much water off as possible, wipe it down and let it dry asap.
Keep the chain clean (light lubing before a ride, afterwards clean off crap with something like GT85 for example) and lightly re-lube ready for next time. That will prevent your cassette and chain set getting filthy so any subsequent cleaning is quick and easy, not a chore to be put off.
Put the bike on a stand, or upside down on a bit of old carpet, so you can run the chain round and round while holding the cleaning/lubing rags on it. Mind your fingers....
    Spring!

Get a bike stand. Before I got mine everything was a chore now I have done more work on my bikes in the last 6 months than I have done in the previous 4 years.
  • put cycle oil on the chain, forget about it. that's it

don't waste your money on any of that spray rubbish which just washes off, unless you get off on cleaning bikes or like rust
