I've currently got an old style 5 bolt Hope front hub and I want a new set of brakes. This means I have to invest in a new front wheel (unless its a Hope) - can anyone tell me if other companies' brakes are compatible with Hope rotors? I'm looking at Avid, Magura and Formula

Thanks
Matt

Think the rotor is for is 180mm (maybe 183mm) if that matters

as long as the brakes are for the disc you have then you have no problems

if the new brakes are not the same size, call hope and order a disc for your hub in the size you need.

  • Unfortunately i tried that Hope took ages to reply and then said that they couldn't do it. I also don't want another set of Hopes.

so what size discs do you have.

and did you use the phone?

and give some idea on what sizes you are looking at front and rear.

  • I ordered through my LBS (as instructed by Hope) and after waiting 2 weeks they phoned again and were told that it wasn't possible.

i want to run a 180mm front disc but still haven't decided which brake to buy - i was hoping that Avid etc would be compatible with my current brake...

so get an avid front brake but with a 160 IS REAR adaptor (presuming an IS mount fork). Avid only do a 185mm front.

see the brake stick for the reason.

  • Thanks. I ordered some Avid codes today and will get another adaptor from my LBS.
