Aw, they're in the "gifts for kids" section of the website :)

Of course, with my super duper aero minimalist wheels, I don't have enough spokes to fit reflectors :?

I'll get some clackers next... just you wait... or spokey dokeys or whatever you call them.

Why don't they give those away in cereal boxes any more? Spokey dokeys were the best invention!

Because children no longer ride bikes.

Of course once you start lighting your wheels up it's only a small step from neon downlighter's on your downtube, and a thumping soundsystem in your rucksack!

Of course no-one would ever design something like this:

    lowrider-kid-with-arm-s_05_LRG.jpg

Or sell them in the UK

    or a sound system....

    cat-walk2.jpg

    That would be silly!

I mean the only thing left would be......

    A blender

Hmm, they look pretty interesting too! I've got the fireflies on my bike, but not been out in the dark with them yet to see what they're like.

Can anyone who has these recommend some off ebay - I assume that's where you get them from?

There are so many different sellers and prices, I have no idea which are decent.

    Cheers

  • Hmm bought some of these back in Sept.

    spoke-lit-2.jpg

Just dug them out for fitting to my bike and there seems to be an issue with them.

I turn them on and almost exactly 30 seconds later they turn off. It's almost on the dot so I think it's programmed, it does this on and off my bike. Anyone else got these and do yours do this too?

It makes them worthless, I turn them on and 100m down the road they turn themselves off!!
  • Apollo - they're still in 'shop demo mode' - read the instructions, you need to hold the on button down until you see a fast flash, then they're out of demo mode.

Took me a couple of tries.

I think they're great - really increase side visibility.

Just bought some of the Fireflys (cos they were cheap & not too OTT!), but was a bit dim & didn't think about the fact that they're advertised as fitting to cars & bikes.... So when they came through they didn't fit to my bike - with PRESTA valves, doh!!

Anybody know of any alternatives? As in, not a massive thing that clips onto your spoke, but something a bit more low key??

Not quite the same thing, but the Knog guys at the Cycle show had a Knog Frog attached to the hub of one of the display bikes. It was pretty noticeable in flashing mode. Not sure how good it would be on a black or dirty wheel, but I've just bought one, so I'll let you know.

I have now tried my Fireflies out a few times in the dark evenings - I love them! Though have been close to crashing a couple of times through getting distracted trying to look at them  They show up pretty well, but they're not too OTT either.

I got them from PK Greenshop: http://www.pkgreenshop.com/index.php?_a ... oductId=15 - £4.98 with delivery, and then £1.98 for 2 Presta to Shraeder valve converters from my local bike shop...
  • I use them too - I think they are brilliant :D

Great cheers, chucked the instructions out a long time ago. Yeah I think they look ace, I feel like Tron for the brief period I have 'em on. =)

Not sure how I'd do this with Xero wheels, or how it would look:

    IMG_0707.jpg

I'd feel like a bit of a child with spoke lights, kinda like when you had those lit flag pole things on your raleigh chopper as a kid and bits of cardboard in the spokes....Kinda comparable to the teenagers that bling up their 1 litre Vauxhall Corsa...You know the types (lowered suspension, under lights, big exhaust and loads of extra non-aero dynamic weight added....or bodykit as it is known!). Bit silly really - but each to their own and that.
  • I was cycling home on friday night, and bumped into a critical mass bike ride, this had the ultimate in bike accessories. A bike with built in trailer that held a car battery, an amp, some speakers and a guy with a laptop, we then razzed round oxford pumping out tunes! It was pretty awesome.

One of the guys had the best Halloween accessory too... A pumpkin lantern with a red light in it on his rear rack! It looked amazing.

  • I got my tyreflys from

    http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/New-Car-Bike-Tyre ... m153.l1262

    http://myworld.ebay.co.uk/safield-online/

    Only 99p and 99p postage!

Had a problem with first set and they were replaced rapidly, very impressed!

See http://www.bikeradar.com/forum/viewtopi ... 1#15029021 on putting tyreflys in a bottle.

BTW, all ebayers are advised to use www.topcashback.co.uk where you get 40% of ebay's fee for the item. Adds up over time and you can get cashback for other sites too!

You can just glue the car style Tyre Flys onto your valve cap. Works well for me.

Anyone bought and used these glow company ones with success on a road bike? I'm pondering on buying these with some Xmas money.

    Got pics?

At the end of the day, these valve caps and spoke lights are an asset to our visibility from the side. Personally, I can cope with a drop in the masculinity scale for the sake of vehicle approaching from the side road seeing me before physical contact!
