Microchip catflaps

Hi,
Has anyone used one of these? I've just got a couple of cats and already they're being terrorised by a neighbour's tom cat so a restricted entry catflap is going to be essential. The new microchip ones work by recognising the unique number on the microchip my cats already have inside them. But are these catflaps reliable?
Thanks.

We have a Pet Porte. It's been in use without a problem for about 12 months. The trees lie about the wind...

Our cats have a cat flap that only opens if the cat in question is wearing a little magnet on their collar. It works well, and sounds cheaper than a microchip one.0

Can you get your cat to wear a collar ? It generally takes about a week to wrestle my cat into submission and get a collar on her. And then it lasts a day or two before she wriggles or cuts herself out of it somehow.0
