I've resently got into mountain biking and am needing help with finding a place to ride that is xc and not overly technical. Any help would be gr8 as the old railway line is rubish after a while and the detours i take are always crap.

  • Morning, I see you have had a brilliant response to this post so far...

Assuming you have transport then i'd recommend heading for Kirkhill forest out by Dyce. You'll find directions for it on the 'Cycling in Grampian' website (or Google it). There is a load of little paths all working off and around the main fire road through the forrest so you can make it as easy or as hard as you want. I'm normally out at Kirkhill on a Sunday and there is always a few groups of cyclists getting kitted up in the car park.

The CiG site also has details of a few other places in the area. Pitfichie is really good but a bit more technical than Kirkhill (and a bit further away).

    Hope that helps!

Oh yeah and there is a little specially made 'fun park' which is a good warm up!
