  • It will be interesting in the TdF. Will Wiggins be trying to start a train for Julian Dean and getting in Columbia's way? !!

Good for him. I just hope he can rack up some more wins before the Tour. It's clear he's a great time triallist but needs some wins to finally back this up.
  • Isn't the 09 TdF prologue the one that's going to have a wacking great hill in the middle?

Don't you mean NZ National Champion 'Big' Julian Dean?

The New Zealand National Championships, obviously!

Have you not been paying attention?

He also does a good "moody" look for the laydeez

Garmin a "superteam" with such big name winners as Dean (no decent wins), Millar (the drugs did work), Wiggins (i'd rather race in circles) and Maggie (sound bloke but seems injury prone). Vandevelde seems OK and they have a few decent looking young prospects but "superteam" no!

Better question - has Dean ever won a race?

And no, races where the entire field contains one other pro don't count.

Well they do have some extremely good TTers.

Millar, Zabriske, Canadian national TT champ, VandeVelde, now Wiggins. I wouldn't like to be up against them in a TTT that's for sure. My point is, it to me, seems an odd signing, they've allready got a TT heavy team, why get another TTer. They could do with a decent sprinter, a climber, something other than a TTer!

Maybe that will be their "USP". They are looking no better than the Columbias, CSCs and Astanas in the "we've got independant testing" stakes. They haven't got a top class GC rider (though Martin could become a very good climber) or sprinters, as you've said so all thats left is to see how many riders they can stuff into the top 10 of a TT. Behind Chinny, of course.

Not to mention the fact that Wiggins track results are probably completely irrelevant to some of the sponsors key markets. I mean, I can't see Wiggo drawing the crowds as he opens some Chipotle burrito bar in Circlejerk, New Mexico.

isn't there a TTT in the tour next year? if so, his signing could pay for itself if they managed the win there. is it reasonable to think that a team would sign a rider as part of targeting a particular stage win? not so sure, but maybe...
  • Well, it's up to Garmin/Chipotle of course...it'd be nice if the Wiggler did win something. Getting big headed about going round and round a track, while it is praiseworthy it ain't as big as a tour TT or prologue. I wish him well, and hope he gets me excited. Erm, I think. Possibly not on reflection.

Perhaps he wants some of the good stuff Allen Lim provides?

You know, those rice cake things Kimmage had during his interview.

Just re-read the article. Is this purposeful dumbing down?

Cycling's equivalent of the transfer window opened yesterday, meaning riders can now sign their contracts for 2009.

Has the Cycling Weekly website had an influx of fitbae fans since the Olympics?

Do you think this has anything to do with the rumoured fall out at the Olympics with Cav ?

Is it so serious that they have really burnt their bridges :?:

Wiggo had a view on Millar's return I seem to remember but I think that hatchet was buried last year. Plus it helps if you get on with one of the people who is hiring you (Millar has a stake in the team and took a lower wage in return for it).
