Melted carpet...
BUICK

I was on the rollers earlier in the week and decided, as part of building my fitness back up after a nasty cold had me off the bike for a couple of weeks, that I'd do some 'sprintervals'. I did a gentle warm up, then pushed the pace for a while, dropped back to 'steady' then launched some attacks with a period of recovery inbetween each. When I finished, sweating profusely and very pleased with myself, and set about putting away the bike and then folding away the rollers - at which point I found that the rollers had melted holes in the carpet! Actual holes! I've used them in the same spot in the house repeatedly (it's between a wall and the bannister for the stairs so it's easy to get on and off) and it's never happened before, but for some reason it seems that the rollers themselves must have been able to make contact and generate friction. I've looked at them over and again and can't work out how that was possible but the evidence is now a permanent feature of our landing!

Me and a friend were doing some sprint intervals on my rollers a while back. They were set up on a hard floor in the kitchen, and there was a door behind them for the downstairs toilet. When we were really going for it, the rollers ended up jumping backwards a bit, putting our rear tyres in contact with the door, leading to black marks. At first we thought it was just rubber, until we smelled the burning, and realised we'd started to go through the door... It sits on rubber feet now.0

I metled the carpet of my room at uni by trying to use the floor as an ironing board substitute. Real problem was that the melted carpet attached itself to the clothes I was ironing.

I fell off my rollers at a fair old speed once, and promptly melted a nice rear-wheel skid mark into Mum & Dad's living room carpet. Fortunately it's behind the sofa so doesn't show too much!
