i returned a cateye computer to ribble cycles for a replacement on the 8 aug, and i havent heard anything from them since, i even emailed them and no reply so i rang them today and they said they had just got it back from cateye and they should let me know the outcome by end of week, is this usually how long ribble take to reply.

no - I sent them an email about something earlier today 11:34 and they mailed me back at 11:45

I think it depends on the query. If they have no info they don't see the point in replying.

Dude you'll be lucky if you get it back this year.

I sent a new ergo lever back to "get repaired" (although I reckon I should have got a new one with it being a low cost item) back at the beginning of July. I've been told the earliest I'll be getting it back is after the 15th September. I was told many false promises including that I'd get it back two weeks ago ........ never happened. I was originally two or three weeks.

If they've got it they should have sent it back today.

Ribble are a pain in the arse - I bought a Cateye Singleshot+ (£70) from Wiggle it broke after 5 months and Wiggle sent me a replacement very promptly but Ribble take the piss with sending cheap components to get repaired when they should just replace them. I'm loosing my faith over Ribble with this one, Wiggle may be slightly more expensive but at least they sort out problem within a decent time.

I've stopped using Ribble now because of the 'can't be ar5ed' attitude and a snotty reply I got when chasing an item that took an overly long time to arrive. They also have never yet replied to any of my stock or component enquiries

I always try the lbs but online you can't beat wiggle, may be a little more expensive but you get good after sales service ( and there are ways to get your discounts  )
  • Everytime I've phoned Ribble I've ended up speaking to a right miserable sod with an condascending attitude as though everything's too much bloody trouble.

I too am becoming a bit disillusioned with Ribble. Will still buy disposables like tubes or tyres from them if they're cheaper but not sure I'd buy anything important and/or expensive from them.

    Incidentally I discovered an email buried in Outlook from them from early last year when I was enquiry about the possibilty of getting Zondas for my Shimano 9-speed setup. Their reply;
Yeah that isn't possible really. you would have to look at a mavic or shimano wheel if you want to fit a shimano cassette.
No mention about the possibility of a potential freehub swap or running a hybrid cassette. Their loss anyway as I buggered off to CRC and bought some nice DT Swiss'.

I phoned Ribble last week enquiring about a Nero Corsa, the guy could barely bother to speak, at one point I thought he had hung up, I said hello 3 times and eventually he started talking again (I think he had been asking someone else for advice, but no skills on the phone at all). The bike might be good value, but I want a shop I can trust to treat me with respect, if they can't do that pre-sales they certainly won't afterwards. I am taking my £1000 elsewhere now.

Ribble had a bad reputation a few years ago but seemed to have improved in the last year or so, seems like the old ways are creeping back in!

if you are in Lancashire then take a trip to the shop - it's a different kettle of fish - they are generally very helpful , although the shop does get busy.

You sometimes don't get the same discounts as online - but you can order online and have "delivered to store" for collection (or collect from the warehouse up at bamber bridge if you want)

They are effectively my LBS (at 20 miles away!) i think they are ok although I confess I have had some bad (and good ) expereiences from them when I have chosen to have stuff delivered as mail order.

I just bought a bike from them and it was a bit of a cock up all the way along. They forgot to order my handbuilt wheels and they forgot to send it out and all sorts of rubbish. But eventually it arrived and it is lovely. For bits of kit, I'd go for the convenience of Wiggle or Chainreaction, but if you like the Ribble bikes, the potential hassle is going to be worth it.

a Nero Corsa with full Ultegra gruppo for £999 is something to like a lot of you ask me, probably worth a bit of hassle.

I have a cheapy 7005 horizontal TT, which is very nice. Not sure I'd have ordered it if I knew there'd be this much hassle.

Yes, that was what I was after, but I barely got out of the starting blocks with their extreme reluctance to discuss my questions with me, their answer's were so vague or non-commital I just had no trust in them, not to mention feeling like a nuisance to them!. So Planet-X gets the £1k - they have emailed me several times since my initial enquiry, often replying within minutes - such a difference! I'm living proof that customer service is good for sales!

I had to do exactly the same as you as my Strada Wireless computer was faulty. It took about 4 weeks to get a replacement back and a couple of phonecalls but they were always helpful and apologetic. They said that the problem was with Zyro, the importer, as they need to receive a returns number before being able to send it back to Zyro, and in some cases there can be a delay. The guy I spoke to sent me a new one as he had not had any news back from Zyro and was very apologetic andwanted me to be happy with the service offered by Ribble.

They are possibly the cheapest around and the only thing I can fault them on is they sometimes don't deliver stuff particularly quickly. I once ordered some stuff from and asked when it would be posted. I was told that it would go out the next day but wouldn't go first class as they only sent stuff first class on a Thursday!!!

My Ribble Winter frame arrived withn a few days and was well packaged - everything was as it should be - generally pleased with that transaction - they did take 1-2 weeks to post out somre tyres last year though.

I know from personal experience how bad Zyro are (the last time I will be touching anything Cateye, just because I know warranty service will be totally frustrating!), however a decent shop would offer a refund or replacement unless the item was fairly old, indeed it may well be your statutory right to have that. The contract is with the vendor, it is not for the buyer to suffer (be without the product) whilst the vendor covers themselves by getting the distributor to sort it out. They may have been apologetic and all that, but the service was poor, and they did the right thing in the end just weeks too late. They should take a leaf out of Wiggle's book - I returned a leaking £80 waterproof jacket to them after 9 months use, immediately got a refund including return postage (no quibbles, no "we'll have to test it", no "we'll have to send it back to the manufacturers" nonsense); bought a replacement from them same day, arrives next day, without a jacket for 3 days! Thats how it should be done, and the cowboys just don't get it!

I don't see what Zyro has got to with it, it's such a cheap item that it should be replaced straight away. When my 5 month old £70 cateye single shot plus died wiggle replaced it within a day - no messing about sending it back to a distributor. I wouldn't have been able to wait months for a replacement light - I would have to purchase a new one.

They should not be pissing about sending a cheap computer back to the distributor they should just replace it straight away - same with my Veloce lever.

Ribble have well and truly lost my confidence.

Agreed, Zyro shouldn't be involved at all, the shop should sort it pronto, then they get repeat business. Learn from how the experts in mail order do it!
