Hi,
Second post and still keen on getting a road bike
Planning on visiting local bike shop mid Wales Aberystwyth who seem helpful who will allow me to test ride new or secondhand and size/fitting etc.
As I have not got around to doing this - and have in the meantime been scouring the internet ebay etc - this site for all topics on cycling. I have come across some variations in size of frame etc.
I was initially advised to get a 55-56cm frame bike - then informed a 63 would be ok - just wondered if anyone had any suggestions or help on this in meantime.
I am 5ft 11" ehrm 15stone looking to slim 8) by cycling.
Have a budget of around £300 and would also appreciate some secondhand bike suggestions and what i should expect to pay.
This site has been a very good source of info so far - many thanks again in advance of any comments suggestions.

Chris

  • 63 sounds a bit on the big side for someone that is 5f t11". I'm about 5ft 9" and weigh 10 stone and my bike is a size 54.

With a budget of around £300 you can afford one of the cheaper bikes from Chain Reaction Cycles. I have the BeOne Briza 1.0 2007 which is £320 and it's been fine for me. Have a look at the link below:

At 5'11 you'd possibly suit a 55 - 57 cm Top Tube Centre to Centre.

If you're around the £300 quid mark you could get something like the 2008 Giant SCR 4 for £ 305 - brand New.

    Comes with a 50/36 Compact.

As ever with a budget bike you can always upgrade the wheels (to RS 20's, Racing 7's/5's Akasiums) and forks (ITM Carbon) - easy cheap upgrades - well worth it.
  • Many thanks guys - Top Tips :D will let you know how I get on.
