Route Ideas - Budapest to Istanbul

Hi,
I am currently cycling around the world and I am in Budapest at the minute. I am not too sure where to head to from here (too many options) but I am trying to get down to Istanbul. I am just wondering if anyone has any good route ideas or has any advice on areas to avoid?

I once dreamed of doing this route... I've heard that Bucharest has a nice old town... I'm sure wherever you go it'll be an adventure! I hope you can read cyrillic if you're going through Bulgaria!0
