Advice needed for a beginner's bike.

Hi all.
Looking for a decent MTB for around £200 - not too much more. Being a student means I have an annoyingly low budget.
I was looking at the Decathlon Rockrider 5.2, the Giant Boulder 2008, the Claud Butler Pagan D2 and the Mongoos Rockadile AL 2008, as I've found these for £200 or slightly less.
I was wondering which of these looks to be the best, or whether there are any better alternatives for around the same pricetag?
I found a rather nice GT Avalanche (I think) in Halfords for £279.99, but I'd prefer not to stretch my budget that far.
I'll be needing something durable - I won't be bombing DH or doing XC, just riding trails mainly - but something that can withstand the odd black route would be preferable.
Not strictly a beginner per se - I've ridden red and black routes a couple of times before, and set to do some more in Thetford Forest on Tuesday - but obviously pretty new to the sport and limited from the pricetag.
Thanks in advance.

You want to be looking at 24 gears really - not just because there is one more, because the rear hub is usually a lot more reliable. Also a chainset with MTB rings, and not touring rings, ie 42-32-22 gearing.
Have a read here for ideas.

The rockrider is very good. Make sure you get one that fits, so testing is a good idea.0 -
If you're in the Norwich area, I'll have a 1 year old Trek 4300 fitted with a Deore Hollowtech 2 chainset that I'll be looking to sell for about that mark in the next month. (when my new toy turns up)0
