Best road bike for £1.5k
Hey guys
Currently riding a Specialized Allez for my commute (15 miles/day) and also for weekend rides (50-100 miles/ride), I am thinking of picking up a discounted 2008 bike for around £1.5k to use at the weekend and keep the Allez for the hacking and the commute. I'm not really a racer, happy with something with a relaxed geometry, but would like something lighter than the Allez, probably Carbon.
This is my shortlist so far::
- Bianchi 928
- Specialized Roubaix Comp
- Specialized Tarmac Comp
- Colnago Arte
- Focus Cayo Expert
Is there anything else obvious that I should be considering? Any opinions on the above? And should I just pick the Focus because it's clearly the best spec at that price?
Cheers
Mark

Now that is a hard list.
Personally the 928 and Focus tick the right boxes.
Heart & wallet says 928 head says Focus.0 -
Others to perhaps consider;
- Wilier Mortirolo
- Orbea Onix
- Ribble Nero Corsa/Ribelle
The 928 Carbon is a fine looking machine. 8)0 -

Planet X carbon with DuraAce for a grand and chuck in a pair of carbon aero hoops too - nothing else comes close for the money - I'm considering buying one because they're so cheap and even if it gets chucked down the road in a race, I'm not going to get upset.Make mine an Italian, with Campagnolo on the side..0

the Trek at that price point is a good all round spec.Facts are meaningless, you can use facts to prove anything that's remotely true! - Homer0

That one?
Yep. Though the Zurich I posted above is £200 cheaper and, I suspect, pretty much the same bike.My blog: http://www.roubaixcycling.cc (kit reviews and other musings)

I'm also looking for a bike in the same price bracket. I'm yet to be convinced that carbon is the ideal material for someone who isn't looking for an out-and-out racing machine. So, with that in mind, I'll most likely opt for a titanium frame because of its inherent comfort, lightness and durability.
I've really taken a shine to this one:

I'm also in that same market. I reviewed the options and decided to go a bit more upmarket. For me this is a logical choice for you as well since you already have a pretty stable bike -- I decided to spend a little extra and get what i thought was a bargain.... To me the most important thing was not the kit on the bike so much as a solid frame. I have mangemd to see both the bikes below and decided that the scott is for me.... mind you my name is also Scott.

Anyone have any feedback on the Focus frame? The rest of the components look great, obviously, but is it at the cost of a slightly crappy frame?0

I love my Focus Cayo Expert but I've only actually ridden one other carbon bike (a Spesh tarmac, I think?) and the Cayo feels more comfortable to me. Also it's pretty.0
