Dry sounding Freehub

My ultegra 9sp freehub went very quiet last weekend during a particularly rainy ride, i.e; I couldnt hear the pawls engaging when freewheeling or backpedalling - very disconcerting...
Got it home, let things dry out, sprayed some WD40 around and generally cleaned it all up - now I can just about hear the pawls engaging against a background of a fairly pronounced "dry" running sound when the freehub spins. The hub axles themselves run fine...
Is it time to replace the freehub body or is there any DIY I can do to rescue it?
Any thoughts?
thanks in advance

The whilst the WD40 might have displaced any water in your freehub it may have washed out any lubricant. Either remove the whole freehub and soak it in oil or even lie the wheel down and try and run some oil into the internals to lube the bearings and pawls whilst spinning the wheel. You may have to mop up some excess oil prior to riding the bike.Make mine an Italian, with Campagnolo on the side..0

thanks monty - thats a good idea - the only oil ive got is the stuff i put on the chain - ive got a seleciton of the finish line offerings - presumably the wet one would do the trick?

I've used finish line wety lube with no ill effects.
Have a look at this:
