Just treated myself to a Focus cayo expert and looking to get some decent wheels for it, going to use the standard ones for general road riding and the new ones for sportives and TT/triathlons I am around 90Kg, was looking at Mavic Ksyrium SL premiums any other ideas would be greatfully appreciated budget is around £500

  • Dura Ace? If you do a lot of TTs might be worth looking at Planet X 50mm Carbons too.

The premiums will do you fine. I have two pairs and their bomb proof. I am only slighlty lighter than yourself although I know people who are heavier than 90kgs and they have had no probs with them either.

They are not the lightest and not the most aero of wheels but I think they are the best factory wheel at this price range. I dont rate Shimano Dura Ace - I have had bead experiences with shimano wheels in terms of durability.

Fulcrum 1s and Campag Shamals are also great wheels at this price range and any of these wheels wil be satisfy your demands.

TT and triathlons call for something a bit more aerodynamic than Ksyriums IMO. As has been said Dura Ace would be a good option ... either the new ones or the old ones. Ultegra SL wheels look good for the cash. A bit of an unknown quantity perhaps.

For TTs and Triathlons I would get the Dalkiia's they look very good value IMO and they would be far more aero than the Mavics, which is more important than weight.
You live and learn. At any rate, you live

jez mon - stop following me around wheel threads!!

    just kidding.

I like the shamals ... I have a pair. More aero than Ks ... lighter ... better hubs ... better looking IMO ... but not really a TT wheel.
