I need some route informaiton. I have looked at all the routes posted for getting from chippenham to bath and am happy i know where the route goes until you reach bath easton and then i am not entirely sure. I know you could go into bath easton and across the toll bridge but some of the routes seem to suggest there is an alternative "cross country" route...is this the case? Does anyone know if there is a charge for crossing the toll bridge on bike otherwise?

There is a toll for cars but not for bikes - a good way to get out of Bath. Going into Bath, another option is the bus lane down London road that lets you bypass all the tourist traffic.

PS for the off road route, you can go over the toll bridge, over a second bridge, then get on to the canal which will take you into Bath. Have a look at sustrans:

lurpak - i do Chippenham - Bath most days. As Iowe says, there's no charge for bikes on the toll bridge, and i mostly take the route along the towpath, otherwise there's the drag uphill the other side of the canal.

I haven't ventured down the bus lane route on London Road yet.

From Chippenham - the fastest route to central or north Bath is to use the London road. The towpath (via toll bridge ) option is good if you are going to south of the city as it ends in Widcombe -although longer , it is the scenic route!

True. There's nothing like the smell of fried bacon wafting from barge kitchens as you sweat your way along the towpath of a morning
