Fork Problems

I have a problem with my suspension fork.
Basically, by hanging it off a wall hook at work on the front wheel, the suspension has loosened itself from the fork, meaning I can detach the bike from the front wheel by pulling the handle bar.
I have taken it apart, cleaned and greased it and put together and same thing. I don't know how the suspension bit is fixed to the fork inside the tube? Is this something I can easily fix myself (I've been to various bikeshops and they all too busy or don't deal with suspensions) or do I need a new suspension fork which leads to the next question: Could I fix this myself? I'm quite good at fixing things but had a bit of a problem fixing a new chain to my bike and ended up bringing it to a shop.
Thanks in advance for any replies.

if i recall that fork uses the spring to "screw" into the lower, but by the looks of it the forks have seen better days and i would be looking to replace them."Do not follow where the path may lead, Go instead where there is no path, and Leave a Trail."

Ok, I'm looking at getting this one:
Marzocchi MZ Supercomp 2008 Fork
Is it fairly easy to do and what size do I need? 100 or 120mm?0 -
100 or less. and the MZ is about as bad as your current fork.
try a RS Tora."Do not follow where the path may lead, Go instead where there is no path, and Leave a Trail."

I've never seen forks do that! Just imagine what would have happened if you'd managed to pull a decent wheelie!

Does the current fork have a threaded or threadless steerer?0
-
not quite sure, why?0
-
well if it is threaded your fork choice changes unless you also change the headset.
Also the fork steerer "may" be a different size to most forks now."Do not follow where the path may lead, Go instead where there is no path, and Leave a Trail."

sweet zombie jesus that's horrible. I dread to think what might happen if you were to ride it in that state. :shock:0
-
This is what I got. How can I find out if it's threaded and if the forksteerer fits?
I also seen that the Rock Shox Tora 302 - fork says "disc only" and as I have V-Brakes this is probably not an option?0 -
The fork looks to be a threadless steerer.
Yes, you will need V brake mounts.0 -
Well you can buy that Tora from somewhere else, with V-brake mounts, not form Merlin.
About steerer, most forks come now with 1 1/8" steerer diameter. Measure yours to see if they are the same size.
Other cheaper forks with V-mounts, Rock Shox Dart 2 or 3.
About headsets I don't have a clue. Maybe nicklouse will help you.0 -
-
Thanks for all the replies.
That's as far as I got. I assume it's threadless.
How do I remove the fork from the frame? I put some WD40 on it and tried bashing it with a mallet, it didn't move an iota. I tried twisting the black rings, same thing, didn't move at all.0 -
bash it harder with a soft mallet. I'm not kidding!0

have a good old read of Parktools, linky below."Do not follow where the path may lead, Go instead where there is no path, and Leave a Trail."

U turn is a good feature, as allows you to dial in the travel of the fork. But:
A: You have to fit it
B: You have to fit it
You need to cut the steerer to length and fit a star nut in iit.0 -
Shyte...that pic (post 2 3 or 4) is gonna give me nightmares =========================================
