I was just fitting the rear shifter onto my current build project, and once i'd fed the cable through and done the fit I turn the pedals and suddenly there is a loud clunking noise, the cassette and freewheel have seperated from the rest of the hub. What I currently have in my hands is the cassette attached to the freewheel, with a section with the three springs and flaps seperate from the main body of the hub which remans in the wheel. They recently recieved a service to replace the bearings at the LBS, and I was just wondering firstly what caused the problem and whether it was something that was not properly done during this service, or something that I may have done myself while doing the gears.

I'd return it to the servicer... Better than messing about with it yourself!

But it should push back in if you slowly turn it in the direction of freewheelling, then take the cassette off and check the seal is properly located and the endcup is in place.

they do that it is easy to put back together if you know what you are doing.

watch the hope hub video, linky in the sticky at the top.
