Slipped Disc...

Ok, so i washed my new rockhopper for the first time this week. The brakes have become pretty useless since. There is essentally zero grip and the only way to stop is to break hard with both levers resulting in a loud squeeking noise from front and back - stopping distance is about 15 times longer than normal.

I have a suspicion that i've contaminated the pads. Is this a new pad job or is it likely the grip'll kick in over time?

Also the rear disc is slightly out of true. A shop job or can I re-bend it myself without screwing that up too?

Brakes are Avid Juicy 3 SL

Cheers

Did you oil/lube up your bike afterwards? you may have got something on the pads. mine used to do the same but only untill they dried out, after that and a few stopies they were back to normal.

clean the discs is isopropanol alcohol and replace the pads, straightening info can be found in the tech links sticky above.

Fenwick's Disc Brake Cleaner is good stuff. Easier to get hold of in the UK than Isopropyl alcohol too :)

I buy it by the litre from a trade only electronics supply company (you can also buy it as a spray) as it's used extensively in that industry, but it's certainly not something you can pick up at a bike shop, or just buy over the counter in the high street.

No idea how easy it is to get hold of in Sweden (or Yorkshire for that matter) Nick, but it's a pain in the bum trying to find it in the UK :)
