Mudguards and Bianchi (and winter tyres)!

Hi all
I'm going to be receiving my first road bike (a Via Nirone 7 Alu/Carbon Veloce) towards the end of the week (my girlfriend has told me that i'm worse than a child on Christmas Eve at the minute!!!) and i'm wondering if it's possible to fit mudguards like the SKS Chromoplastic Mudguards to it, as i'm going to be using it on my commute during the week.
I'd also like to get a pair of puncture resistant tyres that will be suitable for winter riding, so any recommendations would be appreciated.
Cheers

pretty sure the sks guards will fit (raceblades perhaps, not sure what width you'd be needing). you can use a quick release fitting or a more permanent zip-tie fixing.
the consensus on here for pnuctuer resistant tyres is the schwalbe marathon plus, but i've not used them myself.0 -
I had a look at the schwalbe marathon plus' and they don't do them any thinner than the 700 x 25. The tyres on the Bianchi are 700 x 23. Would the 25's be too big for the rims?
That is probably a dumb question, but i am very new to this!!0 -
i'll be honest i have no idea if they will fit - i'm probably as much of a newb as you are!
i'd like to think that a 2mm width differnce can be accomodated in the rims, i'm sure someone here can confirm this for you.0 -
I'd be very surprised if your rims and frame couldn't take 25mm tyres.
Michelin Krylion Carbons are great training/winter tyres. Sadly they're in rather short supply and, being French, they'll make them when they can be arsed rather than when demand says lets have 'em. Nice tyres though.0 -
The clearance between the downtube and rear tyre is very tight on bianchi frames and you do not have mudguard eyes on frame or forks so race blades possibly is the only mudguard option.0

I have an '06 Via Nirone for commuting/winter (albeit the older deisgn with straight tubes, not curved) and raceblades does the trick for me. Full guards will definitely not fit (even by bodging with a hacksaw and cable ties). I have 23's on - 25's may fit but it is VERY tight under the rear brake bridge and rear stays - you need to allow for muck and dirt to pass through if riding in the winter.Carlsberg don't make cycle clothing, but if they did it would probably still not be as good as Assos0

Thanks for this.
What 23 tyres do you use for winter?0
