cranks?

i have just bought a 2008 specialized sirrus comp, the only think i dont like is the chainset. it is a Sport cartridge, square taper, 68 x 113mm bottom bracket with Sugino Comp cranks. what i want to know is can you use a mountain bike chainset with a hybrid? there is more selection with these as i obviously want to keep the triple chainset.
