My mate is thinking of getting a new bike with his Cycle2Work scheme. I have told him about the excellent value from the Carrera Fury and the great reviews it gets here but he is a bit worried that, as he is around 17-18 stones it might not be up to carrying his weight over the rough stuff and wondered if the Kona Hoss might be a better bet. The Carrera seems to have skinny seatstays by all accounts and this is where his concerns lie. I told him not to worry too much as where we ride isn't too strenuous, more gentle trails and old railway trackbeds. Any thoughts?
Start Weight: 128 kilos (20.2 st) (April 17th 2009)
Current Weight:119 kilos (18.7 st) (June 18th 2009)
Target Weight: 92 kilos (14.5 st) (sometime mid-2010, hopefully sooner)

  • Kona make good frames, and is described as being a bike that is "for people who slam a bike around like a good bike should be." (www.konabikes.co.uk) So yeah I guess its supposed to stand up quite well to abuse. However I think that the Carrera Fury will be more than able to support his weight and I would tell him again not to worry, if he is still worried... buy the Hoss! :D

Just posted in another thread about the Fury! Think I am becoming an official ambassador for Halfords.

I weigh about 17 Stone (was 18st a couple of months ago but this cycling lark is starting to get me fit).

I have been on the black runs at Llandegla, down Jacobs ladder and round MAcc forest with no problems at all on the Fury. I think the Bike radar review for the fury was an 07 model as the frame at the rear seems beefier on the 08 model and even has a plate welded between the top tube and seat tube for strength.
