I've found a pair a size bigger than I take in shoes and they're cheap, that's all.

Zip'!

Can be worth doing, particularly with Shimano boots if you want extra thick socks, Shimano tend to be sized a bit small.

    Need to try them really.
It's easier to ask for forgiveness than for permission.

    I've bought a new bike....ouch - result
    Can I buy a new bike?...No - no result

Thanks for that, 'stumpyjon'. I haven't tried winter-boots on, yet, so your tip re Shimano ones sizing on the small side is valuable.

Wouldn't happen to know how other makes (of winter-boot) size-up, would you? Sidi and Diadora, perhaps?

    Thank you again,

    Zippy.

I went up a size when I bought Specialized Defrosters but kinda regret it. When it's just muddy but not cold (i.e. spring/summer/autumn) your feet get hot enough just in normal thin riding socks and uncomfirtably hot if wearing thick socks so they feel a bit loose. I guess when it's absolutely freezing I'll be glad of being able to wear thick socks but I ride a lot less in freezing conditions than I do in warm but muddy conditions so would have been better off getting the same size as my normal SPD shoes.

I'll let you know later today. Ordered a pair of SIDI winter gore-tek and they should arrive today. The reviews said to go with your simmer size as they are cut a little bigger to allow for thicker socks.

Just waiting for postie and I'll let you know.

Just an update. The SIDI ones (SIDI Diablo GTX 2009) are fine in my normal size. I wear 43 Specialised in the summer and they were very tight with winter Gore socks. Just tried the SIDI shoes (size 43) with the same gore socks and they are perfect.

Cheers, 'cjw': now all I need is for someone to tell me whether I should size-up for Diadora winter-boots and I'll be set.

    never have done and wont.

    Overshoes if really needed.

Why? I went for winter shoes mainly for the warmth... last winter my tootsies were cold and the thicker socks wouldn't fit comfortbly in shoes. Didn't like idea of overshoes.
