hi, i have a pair of manitou forks that leak oil (well i assume thats what it is) around the knob at the bottom of the fork, im not asking whats wrong with it or how to fix it. just when i want to get it fixed do i take the forks to my local bike shop and see if he can fix them or do i send them to these fork specialist places that i here about where they fix them? pritty silly question i know, thanks all.
ps. roughly how much does a thing like this cost, asumming its just a leaky seal or something and in need of some oil replacement?

    They may just need tightening.

what year and model are they?

  • stance static, 2005, its the blue knob on the bottom of the right leg i think, ive tried twisting it as hard as i can both directions, it doesnt go very far either way and doesnt change anything anyway, thats what u get with cheap forks i suppose, but i can say that the knob itself has a little bit of 'play' if u know what i mean.

Well the blue Knob is your rebound damping adjuster.

It sounds like the O ring of the damper assy may gone, so they may need to send it away.

well you could take it off your bike and send it to someone to fix it. Or you could get the LBS to have a look and tell you what they think.

It might just be something that needs tightening or it might be right royally buggered and need some money spending on it.

when was it last serviced? it might be time for a full fettle in that case remove the fork from the bike and send it off.

  • never been serviced! i built the bike myself and like to look after it myself, mostly due to lack of money! ill take ur advice and take it to my lbs, get there opinion and depending on the cost i will have it repaired, maybe it will work out cheaper just to buy a secod hand pair of forks. thanks alot for your help.
ps. can u tell me any company/sites that may be usefull if i do send my forks of myself?
  • dam, thanks for the site but tftuned dont do this model because of something to do withh the poor quality internals, time to start saving for an upgrade in forks. thanks guys
