I broke my ankle and fibula pretty badly a few months ago. Im now recovered(albeit with screws and a plate!),and Im wantin to get back on my bike again, so I was wondering what would be the best ankle support/protection to use? The ankles still quite weak and i really dont fancy doing it any more damage. I was thinkin about one of these http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/Mode ... delID=1959
Has anyone used one? Or any other opinions? Thanks in advance.

  • Having the benefit of a radiographer for a father; I can suggest that you get a referal from your GP to the Xray dept and ask them. Having the wrong type of support on your ankle will do more damage than good.

my mate swears by his one of those for bmxing. he's had a dodgy ankle for a while and that has let him ride. but in your case i'm no doctor and can't say whether its a good idea especially if the bones not fully healed/bit weak. the other 661 ankle brace is a bit pants really just gives your ankle a bit less roll side to side and a touch of padding like in football shinpads on the ankle ball.

I use one of these :-

Superb brace, use it 2-4 times a week for the past 18 months and it's still perfect, not cheap but then you asked for the best :)

I use it to support the ankle as I have very bad arthritis and also had all the tendons in the foot/ankle lengthened and as a support brace to make sure you don't injure it again I find it superb.
