The wife and I finally got around to some serious mtb'ing; signed up for a days instruction with chasing trails (they can do short notice courses); and a blast round Dalby forest. I can reccomend doing an introductory course to any other newbies; it certainly gave us the confidence to tackle the Wall at Afan the following week. If any readers were there at the weekend; I was the prat putting my tent up in the rain!!! If I'd sat in the car for 30 mins I could have put it up and kept dry.

At least it stopped raining while you were there. I was at Afan for a couple of days during the week before and got soaked, sat in the car for 20 mins before doing White's Level hoping it would ease off, it didn't :(
It's easier to ask for forgiveness than for permission.

    I've bought a new bike....ouch - result
    Can I buy a new bike?...No - no result

Glad you had a good time at Afan. I reckon you're not a proper camper 'til you've put a tent up (or down) in the rain...
  • I'm back at work now; in the middle east; and I'd give my lefty for 30 mins of the Afan rain right now!!!!

To switchback18; where did you get the adjustable seat stem from? I've looked in all the usual places; but all I can find is the Joplin.

    Cheers.
  • Hi. Riverside Cycles import them:

    Riverside Cycle Centre

You can order direct from the US but if you have to pay VAT & import duty it'd end up costing the same or more.

The Joplin (& the Maverick) seem to need lots of maintenance from what I've heard from owners.
