Hi, firstly if it is a new bike then the LBS may well offer thr first service free after, say, 6 weeks. But that might well be negotiable depending on your circumstances / mileage etc. After that, personally i only take it in when there's something werong and i can't fix it, but obviously that's an individual measure so you may be different.

As a guess, at 50 mpw i'd hazard and say perhaps every 6 months (ie. 3k miles), but that does depend on how it's ridden and what sort of roads / terrain you use.

The LBS should give you enough guidance on basic things like chain maintenance / tyre checks & pressures etc to get you started. And then just take it as you see fit really....

  • Not necessarily disagreeing with karl j but just thought I'd point out that at 50mpw, you'd only travel 1,300 miles in 6 months (i.e. 26 x 50) not 3,000.
Never be tempted to race against a Barclays Cycle Hire bike. If you do, there are only two outcomes. Of these, by far the better is that you now have the scalp of a Boris Bike.
