Hi forum people, got a bit of a prob with my 2nd bike kit on my Sigma BC1606L :( , I have tried this question already on the MTB section, but got no response...

http://www.bikeradar.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=12582302&highlight=

I have fitted the reciever to the fork leg, but the gap between it and the magnet is too large, the manual recommends 5mm, so I am getting no signal. What I was wondering was is there a higher power magnet that I can buy to fit and use with the computer ?

TIA for any replies

    Hi

I had a similar problem with a rear wheel mounted sensor.

To get round it I used a bit of packing rubber supplied with a front light (usually in the box to accommodate different size handlebars) - put this between the sensor and the fork to bring it closer to the magnet.

If you don't have anything at home Fred Williams should be able to oblige!

the bproblem with magnets is that the magnetic field that they produce reduces in sterngth to the square of the distance so you double the distance you 1/4 the power. so a bigger gap is going to need alot stronger magent. packing out hte space is a better solution.

just buy a neodynium magnet and fit it in place. They're more than strong enough.

Aaah thats what I was gonna say. They make kick ass fridge magnets too - nothing falls off my fridge ! Passing cat collars do occasionally stick to it tho...

Don't glue it onto the spokes. It will stick to the standard magnet, so just put it on there.

I'd get a thin one in the same diameter as your current magnet, so it fits nicely, in fact if you get a few then you'll have spares!

Could you move the pickup closer to the bottom of the fork, where it will be naturally closer to the spokes and any magnet?
