There are several bike insurers but in my view they are all too expensive (premiums re usually around 10% of the bike value). The better way to go is to get good home contents insurance that includes bike cover. M&S seems to be the best in this respect, covering any number of bikes up to £4000 value each, all included in the price. I have contents insurance with CIS (Co-Op) and adding a £1000 bike to the policy for worldwide cover costs me less than £2 per month. Just be sure ypu check the T&C's to see what is covered and what exclusions there are (for exmple do they specify standard of locks you must use).

You may already have such cover on your home policy, if not, even changing your insurer and maybe paying a few quid a year extra will still be bettr than going for specialist bike insurance.
  • i did the opposite. getting my bike included in my CIS contents insurance was going to cost a bomb - becasue they wouldnt do individual itesm so tried to sell me a package - insuring more stuff than i own. in the end i got Sustrans insurance (butterworths).

which is the best choice depends a lot on the value of your bike.
