Chain Jamming

Hi guys, i'm new around here.

I recently decided to get back on a bike after several years of just driving everywhere. Many years ago i cycled everywhere and used to enjoy some off road trails in my local area.

But anyway....

I just bought a cheap and cheerful starter bike (Dawes XC 1.4 Disc) to see how it goes and how i'll take to it again. but i have an immediate problem.

The fit/design of the chainset is a bit off and there is a gap just big enough for the chain to get between the granny ring and the bottom bracket/frame when there it gets proper jammed and is a right git to get out again.

Way i see it i need to either close the gap so it can't get down there in the first place or space it out a bit so when and if the chain comes off it will fit through the gap both ways.

Does anyone have any recommendations on what i could do and relevant products to achieve this??

Cheers

Dan

when do you find that hte chain jumps off? If its when you are chainging down a year you may need to play with your lower limit screw to limit hot far over the diralur can move.

It was when setting up the gears. i realise i can adjust bits and pieces and it's not something that will happen often, but it wouldn't be good if it happened while out, cos last time the chain just wouldn't come out except after undoing the crankset.

Obviously wouldn't be good in a field miles from home!

it is the way bikes are.

when the mech is set correctly it rarely happens.
