Seem to me that winning the Olympic Gold ranks higher than winning the World Championships in some sports.

So as a cyclist is it the Olympics or the Rainbow Jersey ?

At a guess im going to go for the Rainbow Jersey.

Gotta be the Olympics - by definition the Worlds are too sport-specific.

not sure I follow that logic - in Worlds cyclists are competing against cyclists

In the olympics its the same thing

Yup - but in the Olympics the world is watching, in the Worlds, only cyclists are.

For Track I guess the Olympics win.

But for RR/TT Worlds win because you get to wear the stripes for a year. The Stripes are more visible than a medal. Obviously if you can do both Cancellara/Bettini it's all the better.

For track cycling I would say that the olympics are the most important but for road I would say the worlds are more important as the rainbow stripes are more visable/marketable than a gold helmet/handlebar tape

    Totally agree.
I'd rather walk than use Shimano

Perhaps the UCI should introduce the golden jersey!

I think it must be the olympics, as the field are similar and the olympics are only every 4 years that must be the most prestigious, I understand the rainbow jersey thing but apart from wearing it for a year the "once every 4 years" must have it in Track, road & TT

There used to be some sort of UCI-sanctioned concession for the Olympic Road Race champion, although I only recall it being used by Pascal Richard. Quite good in that the rider in question knows they get to wear it for four years. Quite bad in that neither of the teams he was in seems to have put much effort into the design, which may have contributed to its demise.
