Dalby forest isn't too far away but there's not much in York itself. You could also try the area around Castle Howard.

As NikB points out Dalby Forest is a good spot around 30-45Mins drive from York, the North York moors are worth a look north of Pickering, Rosedale is a godd strting point. You might want to head out to Terrington/Coneythorpe area out by Castle Howard there are a few shorter circuits out there that wil kill an hour or two.

There's feck all in York my friend. Dalby's OK but gets old quickly. The Moors are a bit of a mixed bag TBH - in bad weather (ie British summer/winter/spring/autumn) it can be a slog in a bog. This summer I've been heading to the Peak District - hour and a half away which is as far as the Northern Moors and the best riding in the country in my opinion.

If you haven't got transport get a road bike

Hi im too bored of york and looking for other places to ride. There isnt much to ride in York, but for quick 1 hr trash you can ride along the river from one end of York to the other end, its around clifton Ings and bishopthorpe area and you can go along the old railway line which heads 12 miles to Selby from where Tesco is. Its boring and straight but for fitness and thrashingits ok . The out york areas have already been mentioned like Dalby, Yorks moors, Pennines and peak district also try Harrogate and surrounding also Helmsleyor the coast but other wise its dull and i like freeridingand trails too, all i have is Steps and few drops to ride i dont even have a car (yet) to get out of York apart from train. hope its helps. I used to ride XC years ago
I don't have a bike addiction problem.....bikes seems to have a problem with me.....it just can't seem to stay on.

  • Im from that neck of the woods, near Thirsk actually. Going back to Northumbria Uni tho soon. If your up for a ride in Dalby, give us a shout! Dalby is your best shout tho, Boltby use to be alrite but i dont think it's been looked after. Going there tomorrow to try and find a trail worth doing.

Hamsterly aint all to far tho, 1h45/2h travel time?

There's some riding in leeds which isn't that far. You need someone to show you round though.
