Worth changing wheels (Mavic Crossride)?

Hi Guys,
A question for my fellow perfectionists out there (that know a lot about wheels!!)
I have done pretty much everything i wanted to my bike, the only thing i haven't looked at is wheels.
My current set are Mavic Crossride Disc's.
Are they any good and at 1920g for the set are they heavy (given i have a carbon frame etc)?
I know nothing about wheels so if that does sound on the chunky side a couple of suggestions for alternatives would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks for indulging me, and for the advice

You can certainly get lighter, but it will cost. Looking at another 400 quid to drop a pound in weight.0

I've just upgraded my Bontrager Race Lites (also 1920g) to DT 240s on Stans ZTR Olympic rims with DT Super Comp spokes and alloy nipples. They weigh 1440g (or 1520g if you include the rims strips). They were £507 plus postage from www.justridingalong.co.uk. If you're potentially interested in running tubeless, their highly informative website is a good place to start.2007 Trek 8500:

For something tough and light I would look at these Rovals

XTR hubs, Mavic 717 rims, DT spokes can be got for 230 quid or so. Light long lasting wheelset.0

Like the rest of the Cambs crowd I am also after a set of lightweight wheels.
I've mostly been considering a set of ZTR 355 from Wheelpro, though I note that he no longer has much of a choice (I really wanted red Hope II hubs).
One of the reasons for getting new rims is to go tubeless (not UST). I know that the ZTR rims are good for this purpose, and come ready-to-go. If I went for, e.g. Mavic XC717, are they tubeless ready? Anyone know of any resources that list rims you can use tubeless? Seems like a bit of a minefield to me...
Also, I have Juicy 5 brakes, do all hubs allow you to bolt a rotor on directly? I thought I'd read somewhere that some hubs require adaptation.08 Commencal Meta 5.5.2

Hi Carlos,
The 717's can be run tubeless. See here; http://www.notubes.com/support_selecting.php and here http://www.justridingalong.com/content.php?pid=532
You'll need either plenty of CO2 catridges http://www.tyreinflators.co.uk/co2-cart ... cat_2.html and pump http://www.tyreinflators.co.uk/tyre-inf ... d_228.html or a compressor, (£80).
I'm not sure but you may need a wider and heavier rim for a 2.4" front tyre. http://www.merlincycles.co.uk/?fn=produ ... egoryId=96
Maybe just change front tyre and get the lighter 717?
see here under dimensions tab http://www.mavic.com/mtb/products/XC-71 ... x#moreinfo and here http://www.mavic.com/mtb/products/XM-71 ... 95003.aspxMy Ride Stumpjumper Expert 20080 -
Cheers Scott.
Merlin have a good deal on XC717 with Hope hubs (any colour you like) - £227 the pair. This is substantially cheaper than ZTR 355 with black hubs (nearly £300 from wheelpro).
However, factoring the fact that the wheelpro wheels come ready for a tyre, whereas the Merlin wheels will require me to buy a kit and do the conversion, hmm I'm erring towards the ZTR, especially when you consider Wheelpro's credentials. I wonder what the weight difference between them is...08 Commencal Meta 5.5.2

mavic 717 weighs 395g
ZTR 355 is 355g
So saving of 80g plus the kit. Also depends on spokes used.0 -
I'm with you on the ZTR Carlos.Have you had a look at those Apoc? http://www.wheelpro.co.uk/

Well i do want to get some as with wheels off my bike is only weighing 17.5lb so if i can get the wheels right it'll be nice...
im looking at Chris King ISO hubs with DT Swiss XR 4.2 XC Disc Rims possibly
Total weight of those being 1302
Would they be a good combination?
Also what about spokes and the different varieties of hubs and holes. Any advice appreciated!
Cheers guys'08 Scott Genius MC20
