Hey hey, complete newbie here. I am going out shopping at the weekend for my first MTB and I was wondering if any of the riders in this forum could point me to friendly shops in and around Glasgow. Help is much appreciated.

You could try Dales cycles, 30 Clarendon place. Thats were i got my bike and the guys who work there are very friendly and give good advice without any of the sales garbage.
They mainly do Specialized, Giant and Scott.

There's also Alpine bikes on Great Western road. Have been in there a few times for advice and they seem good. They also have a shop on the great outdoor experience/Tiso round the corner from Dales. So you could kill two birds with one trip! They do Trek, Caonnondale and a whole lot more.

    Have fun looking.

What sort of bike you looking for?

I bought my Hardrock at Dales. It was the Hardrock Comp disc for £299.
I love it. It's a great bike to learn on. Good strong frame and heard alot of people say that it's a good bike with potential for upgrades. (probably the forks. They do the job though and i've no complaints)

    Have fun shopping.

One advice I would give though is dont buy at the weekend. It's always really busy and the guys might not have time to give you alot of their time. Especially with me asking them about a hundred questions and asking their advice!! Seriously. Take your time and shop around and talk to the guys in the shop. They'll give you really good advice.
  • Alpine seem good. They're the only one I've been to in Glasgow when I lived in Scotland. They've got a shop on it's own & one in a branch of a TISO outdoor shop.

Also try some of the smaller shops, Craig McMartin Cycles in Shawlands is good, with an active bike club attached to the shop. I went to Alpine and they screwed up my weekend demo of a trek, so vowed I wont buy anything from them again. No apology, just "well the bike isnt here"! Amazing!

Bought my first bike from Dales, and they were very good.

If you are looking for a GT then I think only Gear in the West end and Cylce Lane in the South side have them in stock, though can order them online at Dales.

I'm also about to buy my first mountain bike- GT Avlanche 2.0 I reckon. Seems good spec for £400.
