I need to replace my ultegra bottom bracket - Shimano 6500 Octalink Bottom Bracket. Ihave never done a job like before on my bike. I am considering buying the bracket and tools myself.

is this an easy job. my local lbs quated around £50 all in but the bracket goes nearly every 18months so i thought why not do it myself?

Any advice?

Thanks

    Easy mate,
Check is you have self extracting crank bolts, you will see a large crank dust cap with a hole in, through the hole will be an allen bolt. This is the bolt which fastens the crank to the bottom bracket.Undo these and the bolts will press against the hollow dust caps and pull the crank off.If you don't have self extracting bolts you'll need a blank to put in the bottom bracket axle f for the extractor to press against.
Next get your bottom bracket tool and undo the non drive side in the normal direction, then the drive side which is a left hand thread.
Thats your old stuff off then repeat those steps backwards to refit.
check the crank bolts after a few miles to make sure they haven't come loose.
