Hi,

I'm pretty new to this mtb stuff and i've just bought a 2008 Giant XTC 2.5.

Just wondering if there were any general upgrades that you would reccomend??

Any info appreciated!!!!!

Cheers Mark :)

Just bits to tailor it to you - maybe saddle, grips for comfort if don't like stock items. Tyres as well,as usually can get a lot lighter.

Apart from that, just leave it and replace parts as they wear out! Otherwise, should have bought next model up ;-)
  • Cheers for that.

Must admit i HATE the grips on the bike now - they are well too skinny. Reccomend any place where i can get some fat grips??

Replace the grips if you're not getting on with them, but take the time to find out what you like and don't like about the XTC.

I've got the 08' XTC1 and have modified it quite a bit as at the time I thought it it was a great bike, with a great frame and felt right. As I've used the bike (every day since January) I've changed parts either to fit my riding style or to improve the performance/ replace worn out parts.

You've made a good choice as it's a great frame to work on, very stiff and fast!
  • I would suggest some lock on grips, mabe ODI?

Pretty good spec for the money out of the box.
Wheels could be better, but thats true of most bikes at this price point.
Take a look at some Merlin built XT or Hope Pro 2 hubs with Mavic 717 or DT4.2 rims.
ODI cross trainer grips are good.
Standard Giant bars, stem and post are quite heavy, but work..
hange tryes for the best bang for your buck.Something light and fast like Racing Ralphs,Conti Speed Kings or Maxxis Ignitors suit the racy character of the XTC.

Get a few rides in first but the most common things to change are the grips, saddle and pedals but only if the standard ones don't suit. Tyres can transform a ride - they should depend on where/what you ride. I wouldn't change anything else until it needs replacing, including the wheels.

  • Cheers for the advice guys. Ordered a new saddle and grips, probably going to wait a bit and look around for hubs and rims though.
