Marg tub lids and cut down plastic 1l milk containers also work very well........0

A piece of damp proof course will do the trick too - B&Q.0

How do you attach them to the mudguards? I attempted this last year but could not find a screw small enough to do the job.0

couple of pop rivets?0

Best mudflaps....................made from duck tape layered on the inside and outside of the mudguard.
I use about 3 layers on each side which makes quite a stiff 'guard, but one which will bend in the event of a crash or if it comes up against something solid (so as not to bring you off).
I flare them out and then they can be cut to shape round the bottom. If you need to make them long just use more layers as it will make it stiffer.
Best mudflaps out and not riviting.screwing needs to be done. Also very light.

I'd agree with the pop rivet trick.
If you don't want to go to the expense of a rivet-gun, then a small dome headed bolt with a nut on the outside, threadlocked on, should do the trick, if somewhat inelegant.0 -
I made mine out of a dark grey clear plastic A4 file from Tesco (£1), cut to shape and rivetted on with my Lidl pop rivet set (£3.99). It looks like factory made, it is both flexible and tough.0

Cut down washing up liquid bottles. The round ones. Morning Fresh, that's it.0

Fabric softener bottle - it was exactly the right curve and then flared-out just right.
Couple of pop-rivets, but I was amazed how hard it was to drill through the SKS mudguard...0 -
I like the sound of the duck tape idea ! I'm gonna give that a go. I've been meaning to sort my flaps out for ages. Ooer.0
