The postive side of self righteousness!?

Despite the rain today, I got kitted up, strapped the panniers to the rack and went shopping! To many of you I'm sure that's a familiar feeling, but for me it was a first brush with 'utility' cycling and it felt GREAT! Totally out of proportion goodness. And here's the rub - I'm pretty sure it's because I feel like I'm better than other people for doing it! But surely, with something like this - it just so happens that is true, so why not revel in it? If you look at it more closely of course, there's no martyrdom involved because I enjoy being out on my bike... but it's nice to know you are making a domestic duty into something that feels good, is good for you and does no harm to the environment.

reading between the lines, are you saying you cycled to the shops ?
well done bonny lad, quite an achievment, no wonder you're elated0 -

A friend of mine, who lives a bit away from the shops with no bus connection, sold his car and got a trailer to attach to his bike for when going shopping.
He said his main reason was that, so long as they had a car, his wife (who doesn't cycle) did the shopping and frequently bought food he wasn't keen on. Now he has control of what they eat!0 -

...on a bike you have the moral high ground...the days(years) of personal motorised transport are numbered......all the way...'til the wheels fall off and burn...0

And people wonder why cyclists are hated by the general population...
Go back to knitting yogurt ya hippie - you cycled to the shops, stop the presses!0 -
Parsnip - ya cheeky wee beggar! I'm playing it up for laughs of course - but the point is I am actually quite proud. It's fairly 'labour intensive' walking around the shops in cleats carrying panniers then riding home in our glorious weather fully laden, and after years of getting used to the convenience of a car for shopping - fitting a rack and committing to shop this way seems like a pretty big step from just cycling for pleasure and commuting.
Always someone willing to wee on your chips though eh? :?
