Newcomer here to roadbikes, only posted a few times here previously.

Just ordered a Pinarello FP1 2008 via the C2W Scheme and I'm looking to sort myself some kit out before it arrives in stock at my LBS.

Been looking online and found a few jerseys I fancy picking up, but I'm a bit confused about the sizing of these things.

I'm normally a 42/44 inch chest and looking on various websites that sell bike kit, a "LARGE" equates to a size 5 or a 40" inch chest and an "XL" equates to a size 6 or 42" chest.

These jerseys being pretty "stretchy", if I'm a 42" chest normally, am I better going for a size 5/40" so it stretches or sticking to a size 6/42" which is my usual size for tops and t-shirts etc?.

Same goes for bib shorts, I'm a 34" waist, what size bib shorts to go for?.

Secondly, been looking at getting a trip computer, and I've noticed a few of the more expensive ones show something called "cadence". I think I kinda know what that actually is in relation to biking, but is there any advantage in having a trip computer that shows it?.

Many thanks!!! :D

Cadence means it shows when there are any bears nearby so you can turn around and pedal away fast. Most have a bear symbol that flashes red.

cadence is how fast you turn the pedals.

Definitely go for the size that applies to you otherwise you risk dislocated shoulders trying to get in and out of a skin tight jersey that is too small. I've got a 40" chest and can fit into 38" jerseys but my god it's a struggle getting them off particularly when sweaty. Bib shorts are more difficult to size as you need to consider height too, but if you are of average height then again go for the size range that applies. I doubt the small aerdynamic advantage of having to lever yourself into your shorts would offset the restricted blood supply to various appendages.

it also depends upon the make.
I have some Bianchi 'team' bibs which are Italian-made and they are tight, tagged as an 'XXL' whereas I have some Pearl Izumi 3Ds which are a bit too loose, tagged an 'XL', so a 'L' would have done (they were a cheap offer... :) ).
For your given size, 'L' would be comfy, 'M' would be a bit snug for comfort.
