Newbie - any good events near London?

I am quite new to biking (and unfit)
I am looking for an organised event (near London if posible) I can enter to motivate me to train and get fit for so I can have a goal to work towards.
Does anyone know any events for beginners that may be suitable (at a guess 20km?) that take place in the nearish future?

You could have a look at doing one of the Evans Ride-it or Trailbreak events. The next Evans event is Aug 31st starting from Oxted in Surrey and looks like it's not too far from the railway station.0
