Before I go into rd riding I have been out on my mtb bike and found it really hard with my nobbley tyres on, I have just fitted some rd tyres on tonight and I was wondering if they will make a real differance to my rd riding or is a racing bike required?

    Required for what?

If you want to pootle around / commute, road tyres on your MTB will make a huge difference to how it rides on the black stuff.

If you want real speed, get a road bike.
