08 Rockhopper owners - gear cable routing query

Hi, I've just picked up my new 08 rockhopper and have noticed that the gear cables cross over each other underneath the lower bar - rather than running parallel to each other they form an "X" shape.
This seems to be because the left (front) shifter cable passes to the right of the stem before having to return to the left hand guide on the bottom bracket and vice versa.
Is this intentional or have my shifter cables been incorrectly routed?
Thanks.

Perfectly normal! And actually a good idea, as the outers next to the headtube place less pressure on it, so wont wear the paint away as quick. Still good to put patches here though.0

Strange but true. The idea (as supersonic says) is that it means the gear cables don't rub on the headtube reducing the usual scratches and rub marks. I don't think it looks smart, but it's more about the ride.jedster wrote:Just off to contemplate my own mortality and inevitable descent into decrepedness.
FCN 8 off road because I'm too old to go racing around.0 -
Lots of Specialized's are like this. You can try it both ways if you want. I've seen bikes where people have 'corrected' it without knowing it's like this from the factory/shop.0

Haha I would be one of those owners then . Suppose i'd better go change it over...0

Thanks guys, I guess I'll leave them as they are then!0

Mine were like that but had to change them over as my crud catcher wouldn't fit on the down tube with them there.
Thought it was the bike shops' mistake but I take back all my mutterings after the experts advice!!! :oops:0
