Riding a loop home Friday afternoon ,after about 18 miles I really needed something to eat.
Before anyone gets excited and says this should be training .Hang onto your levers a moment. My riding is done just to keep fit and a losing battle to keep weight gain a bay. The weight is clearly winning
Anyway back to Friday afternoon.
The Salt Box cafe in Derbyshire happens to be on my return leg
Enter cafe .Hmm,ah......Sausage & egg buttie  Well it went down a treat with a mug of salt box tea  Cooked to perfection egg still runny .Just... well come on you know.
So if you are ever in Derbyshire on your bike, passing through the village of Hatton on the Derdy /Staffs border a stop a Salt Box is a must.
The question is whats your buttie and can you put it on the map 8)

Last year when backpacking around New Zealand, I was staying at the YHA in Rotorua (Kiwi Paka) and was planning to spend the day mountain biking in the forest there. So, I needed to get some lunch sorted before I set off. I asked if they had any vegi sandwiches and got a "no, sorry mate" :( Then a voice from the kitchen replies "no problem, I'll put one together for you" :D Paid my money and said thanks and off I went. At about 2:00 PM that day I decided to stop and have the sandwich... it was awesome, the tastiest triple decked job you can imagine, complete with kiwi fruit. Naturally, I'd like to go back for another 8)

My wife makes these for me, so not sure it counts, but a cheese and pickle with black pepper.
The pepper adds to it no end.

As a rule, I don't eat any meat while riding but a chip buttie goes down a treat.

Cheese and onion with salad cream and paprika. Do not know if it is still open. The Kestrel in Hatton used to also do the 200 oz steak. Which if you managed to finish (including the peas, apparently) you got for free. They did have a photo of someone eating one (think it was one of the Gladiators), pretty much the side of a cow. Not good.

Egg butty with ketchup and a sprinkling of salt for electrolyte replacement.

Mmmm, the Salt Box - fantastic! The only shame is that it's closed on Sundays.

Battered and deep fried I hope!

A bacon buttie is the occasional fuel during/after a weekend run. There's a couple of cafe's in Holmfirth that do a mean buttie on a Sunday morning after a loop over Holme Moss.

A run out to Bolton Bridge wouldn't be the same without a buttie at either the Pavillion cafe at Bolton Abbey or the tea rooms at Bolton Bridge itself.

Best of all is pulling up at home on a Sunday morning, after a long (ish!) ride on a frosty sunday morning with the smell of bacon wafting around the drive-way.
